Our Projects

On 18th June 2010 Cooma Unlimited called a public meeting to allow residents of Cooma Monaro Shire to discuss the present situation in Cooma and where our priorities are for the future of the Shire.The following is a brief outline of the responses after which small committees were formed to follow up on the suggestions for current and future action.

The headings are followed by the names of the persons currently on those committees with the committee leader in bold print.

1. Physical appearance of town, clean up town - Geoff Bowland, Dugald Mitchell, Ken Dane

2. Cooma as an educational centre - Bruce Hovey

3.  National Broadband - Niall Waterhouse, Nelson Wallace

4. Rural Land Use - Craig Mitchell and Dugald Mitchell

5. Use of LEP to attract business, settlers - Craig Mitchell and Dugald Mitchell

6. Local Tourism - Promotion of local destinations - Dugald Mitchell, Raglan representative

7. Using surplus accommodation - Houses, shops, Hotel/Motel beds, Industrial sites - Ken Prendergast

9. New Retirement Village in Cooma North - Nelson Wallace - after investigation - not feasible

11. Improved public transport and their interlocking timetables - Martin Hughes

12. Retail business encouragement and town planning input - Chamber of Commerce?

13. Grow regional Artisan Community - Raglan Board

14. Grow the uses of Polo Flat Airfield - Dugald Mitchell

15. Rejuvenate Polo Flat Industrial, setting up specialist areas - Ken Prendergast

16. Bike Paths throughout the Shire - Use disused railway - Neil Brown

17. Adopt a town personality

18. Renewable energy, green power - Nelson Wallace

19. Increase hospital services including greater use of operating theatre - Bronny Taylor
