Location

Cooma is ideally situated in New South Wales approximately 100kms from Canberra,the far South Coast of NSW and the legendary Snowy Mountains winter ski fields and summer playground.

The main rural industries are sheep and cattle grazing with many highly regarded Merino studs and beef cattle studs in the area. The district is renowned for the quality of its wool and young yearling cattle are sort after from other districts.

Cooma has been the centre for the Snowy Mountains Authority during the building of the world renowned Snowy Mountains Scheme and is more recently the home of Snowy Hydro the controlling corporation for the ongoing maintenance and business arm of the scheme.

Other large employers in Cooma are the Department of Corrective Services, the Defence Call Centre, Monbeef Abattoirs, Cooma Steel and the headquarters for Cooma-Monaro Shire Council. Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) also has a presence in Cooma.
